Irish FinTech Executive Salary Guide 2026: PCF, Leadership and Board Roles

This guide benchmarks senior and board-level pay across regulated FinTech in Ireland, covering EMI, PI and CASP-licensed firms. It focuses on the roles that carry Pre-Approval Controlled Function (PCF) designations under the Central Bank of Ireland's Fitness and Probity regime, alongside the wider leadership team.
It is produced by Nexus Search, an Irish executive search firm specialising in PCF, C-suite and board appointments across regulated FinTech and financial services. The figures draw on anonymised placement records, market intelligence from our search practice and third-party sources.
How to Read These Ranges
The ranges below cover the middle 90% of placements for each role. Roughly one hire in twenty will sit below the range, and one in twenty above it.
The ranges are deliberately broad because two firms hiring for the same title can be paying for very different jobs. The main factors that move a package within or beyond these ranges are:
Licence type: EMI, PI, CASP or a wider credit or investment licence
Scale and complexity: headcount, transaction volumes and the number of jurisdictions covered
Product range and customer base: retail consumers carry different regulatory weight to B2B clients
Risk profile: how the Central Bank categorises the firm, and the intensity of supervision that follows
Scope of the role: Irish entity only, or European or group-wide responsibility
The candidate's PCF history: prior approval in the same PCF role carries a clear premium
For a benchmark specific to your firm, a conversation will get you much closer than any table. Contact details are at the end of this guide.
Compliance, AML and Risk PCF Salaries
Role | PCF | Base salary range | Typical base | Market note |
Head of Compliance / Chief Compliance Officer | PCF-12 | €120,000 to €220,000 | €150,000 | Most difficult role in the market to fill |
MLRO / Head of AML and CFT | PCF-52 | €120,000 to €180,000 | €140,000 | Demand intensifying ahead of AMLA requirements |

In the Irish market, Head of Compliance and Chief Compliance Officer describe the same regulatory function, as do Head of Risk and Chief Risk Officer. We benchmark them as single roles.
Executive Leadership Salaries
Role | PCF | Base salary range | Typical base | Market note |
CEO / Managing Director | PCF-8 | €150,000 to €220,000 | €180,000 | Tightest candidate pool of any role we track |
CFO | PCF-11 | €120,000 to €160,000 | €130,000 | Supply has eased since the 2022 to 2023 peak |
COO | Varies by firm | €140,000 to €200,000 | €150,000 | Pool depth depends heavily on the brief |
CTO | Varies by firm | €120,000 to €200,000 | €150,000 | Supply improved after the tech sector correction |
CISO | Not a PCF role | €110,000 to €160,000 | €120,000 | Profile raised by DORA |
Board Fees
Role | PCF | Annual fee range | Typical fee | Market note |
Independent Non-Executive Director (INED) | PCF-2B | €35,000 to €70,000 | €50,000 | Based on roughly 12 to 15 board days a year |
Independent Chair | PCF-3 | €45,000 to €80,000 | €60,000 | Consistent premium over INED fees |
More detail on board pay is in our guide to INED and Chair fees in Irish FinTech.
Bonus
Bonus follows one consistent pattern across all executive roles. 10% of base is the typical floor and 25% is a strong outcome. Some senior hires take no bonus, usually where equity replaces it, and some exceed 25%. For more on how bonus, equity and benefits fit together, see Equity, Bonus and Benefits in Irish FinTech.
Skill Premiums
Some specialist skills command a premium over the ranges above. Treat these figures as directional. They are a point to raise in negotiation, not a fixed amount added to base. They also rarely stack: a candidate with two of these credentials will not command the sum of both.
Skill | Premium | Most relevant to | Outlook |
AI and machine learning governance | €20,000 to €40,000 | CRO, CISO, CTO, Head of Compliance | Three to five year window before it erodes |
Sustainable finance | €20,000 to €50,000 | CFO, CEO, INED | Eroding as more people upskill |
DORA and operational resilience | €20,000 to €30,000 | COO, CISO, CRO, CTO | Eroding into 2027 as DORA becomes standard practice |
Blockchain and tokenisation | €15,000 to €35,000 | CRO, CTO, CEO, Head of Compliance | Persistent, as experience remains limited |
Real-time payments | €15,000 to €30,000 | CTO, COO, CEO | Sustained by infrastructure investment |
What's Changing: The CASP Premium Is Narrowing
CASP (digital asset) firms and larger-scale FinTechs have historically paid above these bands, driven by a shortage of qualified candidates. That premium is now narrowing. Several CASP entities have scaled back or exited the Irish market, and pay is settling towards the wider FinTech average.
